Matched to What's Actually Happening

Basement Waterproofing Solutions for Maryland Homes

No two Maryland basements flood or seep for exactly the same reason. OBW builds a waterproofing solution around what's actually happening at your foundation, the soil around it, the grade of the yard, and where the water is really getting in, rather than selling one product to every homeowner who calls.

Why a Basement Needs a System, Not a Single Product

Maryland's Piedmont clay soil holds water against a foundation instead of draining it away, so hydrostatic pressure builds after every heavy rain and looks for a way in, the cove joint, a hairline crack, or a porous spot in older block. An interior drainage system without attention to a cracked wall still lets that crack widen over time. A vapor barrier without drainage does nothing about bulk water already entering. Solving a basement problem for good usually means treating the water path as a whole, not patching the one symptom that's currently visible.

OBW has been designing these systems for Maryland basements since 1953, from Baltimore City rowhomes to Harford County split-levels to the sandier, higher water table conditions near the Chesapeake in Anne Arundel and Cecil counties.

OBW Solution Components

Interior perimeter drainage system installed in a clean Maryland basement with block walls
  • Interior drainage systems, hard-cased 4-inch PVC drain tile at the footer, tied to a properly sized sump pump, for water already reaching the cove joint
  • Exterior waterproofing membranes, applied to the outside face of the foundation wall for the smaller share of cases where the wall itself needs to be sealed from outside
  • Crack repair with the Artery Method, OBW's proprietary V-groove, wire mesh, and hydraulic cement repair for wall cracks that are letting water through
  • Vapor barriers, heavy-mil barriers that stop moisture migration through basement walls, often paired with drainage or installed ahead of finishing a basement
  • Yard drainage, grading and surface water management that keeps water from reaching the foundation in the first place

Not every basement needs every component. Your free inspection determines what your specific situation actually requires.

How OBW Decides What Your Basement Needs

Every OBW inspection starts with finding the actual entry point rather than assuming one. That means checking the cove joint, wall cracks, existing drainage or grading, and the sump system if one is already in place. Two basements that look the same from the top of the stairs can need completely different solutions once the source is identified. Our consultative technicians give you a written, itemized quote for what your basement actually needs, not the largest system we could sell you.
