Bel Air is home. Our offices are in Harford County, and we've been working on Bel Air basements since Frank Sr. opened the doors in 1953. About Bel Air
Frank Pirog Sr. lived three miles from where our HQ sits today. Three generations of the Pirog family have grown up on these streets. We know Bel Air's housing stock the way you know your own neighborhood, because it IS our neighborhood.
Bel Air sits on the eastern edge of the Piedmont, where the soil starts transitioning from dense clay to the sandier loams of the Coastal Plain. That transition zone is messy for foundations: you'll see homes 200 feet apart with completely different soil profiles. We've learned by working block-by-block which streets sit on what.
Most of our Bel Air calls cluster in three areas: older homes off Main Street (1880s to 1920s stone and brick), the mid-century ranch boom in Bel Air South (1950s to 60s block foundations), and the newer poured-concrete construction in Vale and Macphail (1990s to today). Each calls for a different repair vocabulary.
Weather note. Bel Air averages 45" of rain per year. Located on the Piedmont/Coastal Plain transition, drainage varies dramatically by street. Freeze-thaw cycles in Jan to Feb regularly cause crack progression in older block foundations.
