Why an Encapsulated Crawl Space Still Needs a Sump Pump

Encapsulation manages moisture in the air and through the soil surface, but it doesn't stop groundwater from reaching your crawl space if the water table rises high enough, particularly in the sandy, high-water-table conditions near the Chesapeake in Anne Arundel and Cecil counties, or after a heavy Piedmont clay soaked storm elsewhere in our service area. When a crawl space includes an interior drainage system, that water is collected at the perimeter and needs a pump to move it out. Without one, a sealed crawl space with nowhere for water to go is worse than an unsealed one, since there's no evaporation path left either.
