It all depends on your home; however, for homes up to 5,000 sq. ft., we recommend a 1/3 HP Zoeller sump pump. Zoeller sump pumps are quality built, quiet, and very dependable sump pumps. Any horsepower higher than 1/3 HP is overkill and can have adverse effects on the performance of your system and the functionality of the sump pump. We offer primary, battery, and water-powered sump pump installations. Contact Us today for a free quote.
Typically, water enters into basements during periods of heavy rainfall when the ground is saturated and the water table is high. When it rains outside the water table increases, creating hydrostatic pressure pushing against your foundation. The water is delivered into your home due to this pressure and enters around the perimeter where the wall and the floor meet. Water can also enter homes through window wells or cracks.
Don’t most homes have a “french drain” system from new construction? A: Actually, yes! Most builders include a sub-floor perimeter drain system when building the home. However, many older homes in the Baltimore metropolitan area (1940’s-1970’s) have a terracotta-style perimeter drain system. Terracotta piping consists of brick-like, tubular sections butted up against each other with a gap in between for water entry. These systems are prone to crumbling and clogging with dirt over time, rendering them non-functional. In the case of newer homes, many of these perimeter-style drain systems are installed improperly and require service. Every situation is different, and Oriole will provide a custom solution for your particular home.
